Immortals of Meluha is the first book in the series of Shiva Trilogy by Amish Tripathi. It is the story about a ordinary man Shiva(as was described initially in the book ) and his journey of becoming a NeelKanth, a living god for the people of Meluha and as the book uunfolds more, to the entire nation India. Immortals of Meluha is also a story about the Shiva’s quest for evil.
For me Immortals of Meluha is a welcome break from the same repetitive stories of Shiv, we see on TV and their heavy dialogues with words going above the head. Amish as written Immortals of Meluha in a very simple language. There is no use of heavy word ladded dialogues which are difficult to understand. He writes in the simple flowing manner.
The book is quite descriptive but it is good and could visualise it well. The description of Meluha, introduction of Sati in the story, the war between Chandravanshi and Suryavanshi, the war preparation all came out well.
All in all Amish as done his research work well. He has picked up facts and myths and came up with his own story also keeping up to myths and facts as well. What was the best thing, Amish was able to establishment the emotional string of his main character Shiva and readers quite well. There was no awe of Godliness in Shiva. So we can link to his character very well.
Like Shiva was flabbergasted at the end of the war, that what he was considering evil was not evil, I find that, I was myself feeling in the same way. So a connection was established with ease.
Amish also described many terms like Har Har Mahadev. Honestly, before I read the book, even I never knew what does it mean. Everyone use to chant it and I used to follow. Amish through Shiva described it very well.
What was really lacking in the book was a surprise or suspense material. As a result a hook was missing but freshness in the story keeps you going.
Verdict: Go for it. It is great to Read.
