A few days ago I saw the talk of Varun Agarwal on InkTalks. Apart from sharing his success mantra with everyone, he also told about his book “How I braved Anu Aunty”. The second thing I did was to check with my friends if they are having the copy of it. Luckily one of them has just finished reading it. My friend was going gaga over the book, well, I was going gaga over his looks.
Coming back to book. How I Braved Anu Aunty & Co-founded a Million Dollar Company by Varun Agarwal is a simple and easy to read hilarious book with great comic timing. Nothing great about his writing as Varun himself says that he is not a writer.
Yet the book has an Indian flavor. There is a lot of humor, liveliness and wittiness in the book, something which could be seen in the Talk as well.
It is the real story of writer Varun. After passing out his engineering with flying colors Varun wanted to start his own start up company. How here is what all the problem begins which is a common household problem in many homes of India if not all.
If you have done engineering or MBA so you are expected to join high profile MNC companies giving you a fat pay package. Now someone takes a decision of becoming an entrepreneur then it brings a storm in the house. Elders always discouraging them and asking them to quit and settle for a “handsome paying and safe job”. The question arises why you have done engineering if you wanted to be a business. That could be done with simple graduate degree as well. I am saying this because I’ve faced a similar situation. In many ways this books remind me of my initial struggling days as a first generation entrepreneurs.
Well in the book, troubles of hero is caused by Varun’s mother and her friend Annu. How Varun and his friends overcome all the bottlenecks and establish their company making it a million dollar company. The story is based in Bangalore and gives some great description of the city. Recently, I’ve also read The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri giving mindblowing description of Kolkata city. Sometimes these writer does a great work with the description of the place giving a real feeling about the story.
Verdict: Apart from light hearted book and it is also a inspiring book for all the young college passouts bitten by entrepreneur bug to listen to your heart and take the plunge. The book is great to read and a total paisa vassol.
