I even Funnier by James Patterson is the sequel of I Funny which is the first book in a middle school story series. It is an ideal book for the kids age group 8 to 12 years. Though I am grown up now but I still enjoy reading kids book more than anything. They are so simple and full of innocence something which goes missing from our life when we grow up. When I finished reading the book there was pangs of regret that why it ended? Why can’t it go on and on. Well thankfully we will soon in next year, probably, could read i Funniest.
I have always seen creative people be it actors, dancers, painters, writers, poets, singers, designers and many other are very close observant. They draw inspiration from their surrounding. They see things differently than the other people. James Patterson’s Jamie Grimm is also like that which makes him such a realistic character that anyone could connect with it: children and adult alike.
In the first book i Funny, Jamie has won the funniest kid award. The next book i Even Funnier takes up from there. Jamie with the encouragement from his friends like Gilda Gold, Joey Gaynor & Jimmy Pierce and his sweet Uncle Frankie start preparing for the title of Funniest Kid on the Planet. But things becomes crooked when Uncle Frankie suffers from a heart attack. Now Jamie has some tough decision to make which forms the rest of the story. Revealing more will take away the charm from the book.
Like the previous book, i Even Funnier has some great graphic work. Honestly, kids books are incomplete without pictures.
The book is a mixed bag of both sad and happy moments. Sometimes you will feel like crying but the book will also tickle your funny bone as well. But there is so much to learn from the hero of the story Jamie and his never to say die attitude, stay afloat even in storm, face adversities of life as challenge, smile and help other smiles as well are really inspiring not only for children but also for grown up as well.
Verdict: Keep smiling and spread it to others is the simple motto of Jamie’s life. A must read. Go grab a copy now for your little one and don’t forget to read yourself as well.
